Clamp Rack Expands Storage
Double your bar-clamp storage with layered racks with offset slots.
Fine Woodworking has published many great ideas for hinged clamp racks. But my shop space is limited and does not allow me to hinge any unit away from the wall to create layered storage. When I had to purchase additional parallel-jaw clamps for a large job, I replaced an existing clamp rack with this one. Made of 3/4-in.-thick plywood, the rack gives me two layers of clamps, with slots for the bars offset, and virtually doubles the clamp storage for the same amount of wall space.
You can customize the size to suit your own clamps. With this overhanging design, I added plywood spacers where the clamp heads hit the wall, which helps keep the clamps vertical and stable.
To make it easier to reach the clamps, leave an extra 1/4 in. on both sides of the clamp head and bar. You’ll need extra screws in the wall studs because the clamps are heavy. Mine exceed 130 lb.
