Art Deco Fireplace Mantel
Woodworker: Mario Rodriguez
The face of this mantel is made up entirely of triangular sections laid horizonatlly and wraapping neatly around the corners. Resting on top of unadorned plinths, each section is nailed to a plywood foundation, culminating in a square-edged mantel shelf. The mantel is finished with stain, shellac, tints, and glazes to emphasize the design and add elements of subtle aging.
For a project plan and step-by-step construction information, see Mario Rodriguez’s book, Building Fireplace Mantels.
