“Australian Floating Dining Room Table”
Curly Jarrah (very rare) and Tasmanian Lacewood (Silky Oak) combine in this light and airy dining room table.
All the tenons were pinned to ensure a strong and lasting join with the top only resting on the two cross members.
I was fortunate that the local timber yard had a small supply of curly wood. It had several knots, but with careful planning I was able to cut around them and work this into my design.
To ensure the proportions were just right, I first build a full size prototype from scrap wood. From this I made several modifications (tapering the top and changing the rail curve).
The piece is a great project for an intermediate cabinet maker.

impressive - beautiful design, you hit the proportions right on
Congrats!
Hello Mark:
I loved the grace of your table and would like to replicate a smaller version of it for my home. Anything you could tell me about the construction, joinery or problems you encountered would help a lot.
Thank you.
