Cherry and Curly Maple Coffee Table
The table is made out of cherry and has a curly maple center panel. The maple was sliced in three and book matched onto a piece of MDF. I used another piece of maple underneath the MDF to provide equilibrium throughout the panel. Once the panel was created, I wrapped it with 1″ thick cherry and cut the pinned miters on each end of the boards to create the top of the coffee table.
The legs of the table are 2″ wide boards that I cut 45’s on the edge of each board and glued together. This way the leg doesn’t have an edge glue line running up middle but instead, shows face grain on all four sides. The drawers are made with half blind dovetails that I cut by hand and the drawer sides are sycamore that picked up from my local lumber supplier for a couple of bucks. I finished the piece using five coats of General Finishes Arm-R Seal and I finalized the top with pumice and rottenstone.
