Late last year I wrote about British woodworker Stephen Rimmer, a public-spirited fellow who made late-night expeditions with his tools to repair park benches and tackle other neglected projects in his hometown.
This morning comes fresh evidence that the same spirit is alive on our shores. The website www.strongtowns.org posted this item about a woodworker and his foray into “chairbombing”, a tool in the arsenal of what the site calls “tactical urbanism.” Basically, he saw a public need – for seating at a local laundromat – and he filled it.
Clever design, cast-off materials and a can-do attitude. It’s a killer combination. Here’s hoping the laundromat’s owner likes the idea too.
