Kumiko art – landscape
This is a kumiko art landscape piece I finished recently. It is a bay scene with a display of fireworks. The size of the piece is roughly 1200 X 700 mm.
It consists of 13 different types of wood, and eight different kumiko patterns. All colours are the natural timber colours – no stains or dyes were used. I stopped counting at 10,000, but there are somewhere between 10,000 and 12,000 individual pieces. All internal kumiko joints were hand-cut and fitted.
The kumiko pieces are 1.6 mm wide, 10.0 mm deep, and the smallest is less than 3.5 mm long. It took about two months to complete.
