O’Malley recommends using the base of the biscuit joiner as a reference when cutting the biscuit slots along the edge of a workpiece. He points out that even on inexpensive biscuit jointers the base is usually parallel to the blade. He cautions, though, “Whichever reference you choose, base or fence, for any given joint, you need to use the same reference for both sides of the joint.”
