Auxiliary Planer Bed
I use a piece of 3/4-in. plywood over the bed of my thickness planer when I plane thin boards, to avoid lowering the head so tightly. This fixture also reduces snipe. Attaching a stop block to the underside of the fixture will prevent it from moving through the planer. For better wear and reduced friction, you could also make the fixture from melamine.
