Portable thickness planers vary in price form less than $300 to nearly $500. In an effort to learn whether the price differences reflect the quality and features of the machine, Lon Schleining, a writer and woodworker in Long Beach, California, put nine thickness planers through a hands-on test. In this video, he explains a couple of the differences between the machines tested and offers some suggestions of features to look for when purchasing one.
