Tour a museum exhibit of Chinese export furniture from the 18th century in our special video series.This month we take you inside the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts in a seven-part video series detailing the history of furniture produced in Asia during the 17th and 18th centuries for export to the west.
Each week exhibit curator Bill Sargent takes viewers on guided tours of historic furniture pieces detailing the joinery, finish, and design elements distinctive to this period of furniture making, such as the bawl-and-claw foot and the cabriole leg. Sargent also explains how this early furniture influenced furniture design in Europe and the United States.
