The author looked at 13 popular 3-hp, 220v 10-in. cabinet saws. In addition to evaluating the saws for power and safety, he also tested for tabletop flatness, for runout at the arbor shaft and arbor flange, and for parallelism of the blade to the miter slot. He found that all the saws offered plenty of power, solid rip fences, smooth controls, and flat tabletops. The Laguna is one of three in the test group that brings safety to the forefront. It includes a riving knife, which reduces the likelihood of kickback, and a good blade guard. Its riving knife, however, is not quite as easy to remove as those on the Powermatic and SawStop models. It’s the heaviest of the lot and has an extralarge throat plate and an American-made Baldor motor. It had the highest score in blade/miter slot parallelism. An extension table and legs are included. A left-tilt model is not available.
