Find Articles Fast
Search FineWoodworking.com or use the magazine Online Index to find woodworking information instantlyHave you ever found yourself paging through old issues of Fine Woodworking in search of an article that you know you read but can’t seem to find? You’re not alone. This is one of the most common questions we receive from readers.
The good news is that we have developed several tools on FineWoodworking.com that make paging through old issues a thing of the past. With our Online Index and Web site search, it takes only a few clicks to find the information you need. Here are some tips for getting the most from these online tools.
Find articles with the Web site search
In addition to an index of the magazine, FineWoodworking.com provides instant access to more than 1,500 archive articles, 500 video tips, audio slideshows, and community contributed articles. Chances are, if you can’t find an answer here, it doesn’t exist. The navigation at the top of the page is designed to help you find the information you’re looking for but sometimes your best bet is to perform a site search.
FineWoodworking.com’s search engine is powered by Google. The results you see on our site are the same results you will see if you search Google and limit the results to just our site.
Find articles with the Online Index
For the past 30 years, Fine Woodworking has maintained a comprehensive index of all the articles published in the magazine. Each year, until December 2006, an update to the index is printed in the final issue of the year. However, a cumulative version of this index is also available online in an easily searchable database.
From the Online Index homepage, enter a keyword to search, such as “tablesaw” and the results will list all references to that keyword for every issue of the magazine with the issue and page number of the article in which it was featured. Once you find a result that looks promising, click on the issue number to be directed to the digital Table of Contents, or go to your bookshelf and look it up. With the title of the article in hand, you also can search for that article on FineWoodworking.com. Unfortunately, select articles and departments are not available on our Web site.
