For hand-sanding and also sanding on the lathe, I stick two different-grit sheets of adhesive-backed sanding pads together. This produces a sanding pad that’s long-lived and doesn’t slip. If I hit a rough spot, I just flip over the pad to the coarser side. There’s no need to pick up a different sanding sheet.

Diablo ‘SandNet’ Sanding Discs
While Diablo’s SandNet disks perform similarly to conventional paper abrasives in terms of material removal and surface prep (with some exceptions at the lower grits), they make keeping your work surface and work area clean much easier, thanks to the great dust collection possible with them.
Woodriver Circle Cutting Jig
The WoodRiver circle jig, which produces cuts up to 32-1/2 in. dia., and I can confidently recommend it. Unlike similar jigs that can pop off of their pivots mid-cut, ruining a panel in the process, this one has a robust pivot point that registers securely in the jig and workpiece.
