This book follows woodcraft from the forest, through the woodworking trades, ending with a handmade artifact. Author and PBS host, Roy Underhill explores nine different trades including: faller, countryman and cleaver, hewer, log-builder, sawyer, carpenter, joiner, turner, and cabinetmaker. In The Woodwright’s Guide each trade introduces new tools and techniques that set the stage for subsequent chapters. The book is illustrated by Roy’s daughter Eleanor, with details of hand tools and techniques. Finally, included in the book are detailed plans for making a foot-powered lathe, workbench, shaving horse and taps and dies for wood screws.

I own all of Roy's books (even Khrushchev's Shoe). This is his best book IMHO. Very simple and straight forward to read. Makes an excellent reference book.
I have watched him for years, but this is my first book from Roy. It is excellent. Very informative and entertaining. I definitely recommend it.
What got me about the book are the illustrations. Wow, and they were done by his daughter. I think that is just wonderful. I thought I read that she was just 15 years old. Anyway she does a wonderful job in capturing her dad and all what he is doing.
