Sam Maloof was an extraordinary woodworker by all comparisons. He has profoundly affected my love for the craft through his writing, his teaching, and his originality. I first discovered Sam Maloof approximately 20 years ago when I saw one of his famous rocking chairs and I knew that it was quite different from anything else that I had previously seen. Getting to know the individual and also the woodworker has changed the way that I approach my passion. Quite simply, Sam Maloof was a legend and an American icon as one of the most imitated craftsman in our modern time.
