Looking to expand your vision of what a box oughta be? Then check out Boxes and Their Makers, an exhibit opening Sept. 11 at the Messler Gallery in Rockport, Maine.
This dazzling display will highlight the work of 34 woodworkers from all over the world who have redefined the basic box. The boxes will be on display until Nov. 25, 2009. If you’re unable to visit in person, you’ll be able to check out a few of the boxes online. The Messler Gallery is part of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship.

Hey -- there's also a new book, The New Masters of the Wooden Box, that was just published that features all 34 artists. It's based on the box exhibit and Peter Korn, the director of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, wrote the foreword. It's a great looking book...
