Build a table, plant a tree
Get back to basics with Charles Shackleton as he rebuilds the connection between sourcing material and making furniture. My colleague Matt Kenney posted last week about working with reclaimed wood. It’s a great way of making our craft more sustainable. Furniture Maker Charles Shackleton, a frequent FWW contributor, is exploring a slightly different approach.
Shackleton has been offering classes at his Bridgewater, Vermont shop in which participants build a table from locally harvested sugar maple. Part of the project is also to plant a new tree – to replace the lumber used in the project.
Shackleton discussed the program last week in an interview with the Boston Globe. For more information about the program, or to sign up, check out Shackleton’s website. Click on “happenings” and then on “news/events” to see the details.
