I wanted to share these two shopmade long reach drill/drivers I devised. They are ready to help and work hard to drill or drive in hard-to-reach tight and narrow spots.
Since I had two old chucks from worned out cordless drills, I bought at my local hardware store a 36’’ long 3/8’’-24 fine threaded rod that I cut with a hacksaw at 12’’ and 24’’ long (to see a tip on cutting such rods, click here). Note that the 3/8’’-24 fine threads are the standard for drill chucks.
I screwed a chuck on each threaded rod and I locked them up with a nut, very tight, directly under the chucks. Then I slipped on the threaded rod a 3/8’’ inside diameter transparent vinyl hose, that I also bought at my local hardware store in the plumbing department, to protect my fingers and the rod from rubbing materials. Note that I left about 2’’ without vinyl hose at the other end of the rod.
They fit in 3/8’’ drill/driver chucks or bigger.

Best,
Serge
