This table by William Stranger was made with lumber salvaged from a California bowling alley.
William Stranger builds furniture from reclaimed wood in his Pasadena, California shop. Among his recent work is this table made from part of the playing surface at Tava Lanes, a Riverside bowling emporium that was demolished in 2007.
Much of Stranger’s work is built with wood from trees downed by storms or construction crews. Many of his pieces emphasize the natural, using large slabs with live edges. In a fun way, these bowling alley pieces reflect their origins, too. The lane arrows on the coffee table are a nice touch.
The table and several of Stranger’s other pieces are on display through Saturday at the Fifth Floor gallery in Los Angeles. If you’re nearby, stop in for a look. No shoe rental required…
