Cutting Dovetail Keys on a Router Table
Learn how to build a vertical push stick that ensures safe, accurately cut dovetail keys on the router table. When using a router table to cut dovetail keys, it can be challenging to keep the vertical work piece against the fence and on the router table, while keeping your fingers away from the spinning bit. Woodworker Serge Duclos, of Quebec, Canada, has devised this surefire method that also ensures a good, clean cut.
This vertical push stick for the router table consists of a base board, a 90-degree fence, and a hardwood adjustable backer block that provides support for the vertically oriented stock and keeps it from rocking or suffering tearout at the end of the cut.
