Handplane tuneup tips at Alabama woodworking show
I’m headed for Huntsville, Alabama this week for another Woodworking Show’s Hand Tool Rodeo.
I’ll be at the show Friday, Saturday and Sunday – April 23, 24 & 25– giving seminars and meeting our woodworking friends. The seminars include a handplane and a scraper clinic. Festivities start on Friday with the doors opening at noon. Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The handplane clinic is going to be a discussion about four essential shop planes: scrub, jointer, smoothing and block. I’ll also delve into buying, resurrecting and tuning-up used planes, and I’ll show you a few tricks for making an old Stanely Bailey perform like a high-dollar plane.
The card scraper clinic will show you how to quickly tune-up and use this sometimes misunderstood and despised woodworking essential. Learn how to get a sharp, long-lasting burr on your scraper quickly and with consistent results.
I’m giving away a Stanley No.4 smoother that will be rejuvinated over the course of the weekend. All you have to do to enter is stop by and fill out an entry form, if you win the plane will be shipped to you after the show.
