Roland Johnson teaches No Fear Finishing at Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking
Do you hate finishing? Well, you’re not alone, but fear not, finishing can be fun and rewarding. I will be teaching finishing techniqes from surface prep to final polish June 28 through July 2 at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking in Manchester Connecticut. We’ll work with hand applied finishes, spray finishing, coloring and glazing, and a whole bunch of interesting techniqes.
This class will give you the confidence and skill you need to finish your projects without that nagging fear of ending up with a finish that looks horrible. I’ll also delve into repairing or replacing finishes that have gone wrong or simply need refreshing.
Here’s a finishing tip: Shellac is available only in gloss sheen. For a less glossy surface flattening agents can be added to the shellac or the gloss can be toned down by rubbing the surface with fine steel wool or gray Scotchbrite.
