IWF Alert: Rikon 16-inch bandsaw has big-saw capacity at a small-saw price
I seem to be Taunton’s new bandsaw guy. I authored Taunton’s Complete Illustrated Guide to Bandsaws (just released) and wrote an article on bandsaws for the upcoming Tools & Shops issue of Fine Woodworking, so I like bandsaws, a lot, and I think I’m going to like the new 16-inch Rikon saw. With 12-inches of resaw capacity, roller bearing blade guides and cast-iron wheels this saw should be a good wood ripper. Double dust collection ports (one 4in. and one 2-1/2in.) and a double bottom door will make sawdust cleanup easy.
A generous 19 x21in. cast-iron table and quick release blade will make this a comfortable saw to work with. The 1-3/4 horse motor can be wired for either 110 or 220 volts, handy for those basement or garage shops where high-powered electricity can be scarce. The saw sells for $1100
We’ll be featuring this saw in an upcoming Tools & Materials test in Fine Woodworking, so keep your eyes peeled; we’ll put this big boy through its paces.
