IWF Alert: Video: New Rikon jointer/planer is a quick change
Rikon has introduced a 12 in. jointer/planer combination machine ($1700, currently available). What makes it unique is that you only need to flip one of the jointer tables out of the way to use the planer. It’s a really quick changeover. Here’s how the transformation works:
1) Move the guard out of the way
2) Move the fence forward and lock it into position
3) Now simply lift the entire table and fence assembly out of the way and you’ve got a planer!
Height adjustment is super-simple and seems pretty accurate. The table lifts by way of a crank on the left side of the unit. Each revolution of the crank translates to 1/16-in. The unit is also equipped with a set of outfeed rollers to help support stock.

Ah. That seems to have been edited out of the video. The jointer/planer sells for $1700 and is already available.
Other than the outfeed rollers (which I agree would be a good upgrade) that combo machine looks identical to the one I've been using for the past 12 months. Woodfast PT310. Hardly innovative.

DoctorDan,
Thanks for bringing the Woodfast to our attention. The Rikon looks similar to it. Whether they are identical is another question. Also, Woodfast is not a brand that is available in the US (at least I've never seen it for sale anywhere in the US), so even if the Rikon is the exact same machine (plus the rollers) the Rikon would still be news for the majority of our readers (who live in the US).
