Last week we shipped our annual Tools & Shops issue to the printer. This extra issue is also extra work, as it lands smack-dab in the middle of two of our regular issues. That means, three issues in three months. Yikes.
But it’s all worth it, and I’m sure you’ll agree when you see this year’s edition. We have a great mix of articles that will inspire you to get in the shop and do better work. Here’s a glimpse:
Turn Your Garage Into a Real Workshop
Read about how our art director and woodworker extraordinaire, Mike Pekovich, spent this past summer converting his garage into a useable workshop. You’ll get all sorts of great ideas on layout and construction details.
Cutting-Edge First Aid
Patrick Sullivan, woodworker and physician, lays out a plan to deal with any injury that can occur in a shop. You’ll be surprised at what’s in his first-aid kit.
Make a Bargain-Basement Plane Perform Like Royalty
Our resident gear head, Rollie Johnson, gets unplugged and shows how to rehab an old Stanley plane.
Space-Saving Router Table
Get plans on incorporating a router table into your tablesaw.
The North Bennet Street Tool Chest
Refine your skills while building a handsome chest for the tools you love.
Our departments are full of great stuff, too. Roy Underhill, of PBS’s The Woodwright’s Shop, waxes about his favorite hand tools; get the lowdown on setting up and using a drill press in Fundamentals; and as always, you’ll find awesome tips in our Methods of Work department.
Look for the issue to hit newsstands by the end of this month. Enjoy, and feel free to tell us what you think ([email protected]).
