Better Dust Collection for the Bandsaw
Add a port to the bandsaw's lower-wheel door to capture dust where it collects.
Q:
I’d like to add a dust-collection port to the door covering the lower wheel of my bandsaw. Where on the door should I put it?
Tom McGreevy, North Plains, OR
A:
Put the port in the lower left-hand side of the door, where the dust accumulates. I’ve found that it’s easier to collect dust after it has settled than when it’s still airborne. The lower wheel on a bandsaw turns clockwise, pulling the dust along with it. The dust has enough velocity to make it around the bottom, but as the wheel turns upward, it slows and falls to the bottom left-hand side of the cabinet.
