This past summer while on ‘vacation’ I was comissioned to build a bench for a local resident. My client had a mid-modern Danish made rocking chair and asked if I could build something ‘similar’. We met and discussed the project and after a bit of back and forth and some full size drawings, we came to an agreement on the design.
The only other request was that we match the species and try our best to use local materials.
The rocking chair to my surprise was cherry and when I located a plank suitable for the project at a local sawer I was even more surprised!
( we don’t have very much cherry wood on Cape Breton Island )
This video is a bit of the journey through the process.
You can find the complete bench project and more on my web site- www.theunpluggedwoodshop.com
Cheers!
ps…
the music is something I wrote and recorded last night to go with the clip- enjoy~; )

Excellent piece and video. I hope your daughter remembers this with as much pride as she should.
You should be proud of the piece. It is beautiful. I miss working with cherry. Living in Australia it is very hard to come by. Mark
