Yesterday Google released the second maintenance release of SketchUp 8. There are more than 150 bug fixes and other under-the-hood tweaks. For those who have difficulty installing plugins from ZIP files, they made this easier to do. Under Preferences>Extensions you’ll find a button labeled ‘Install Extension…’ Click on that button and navigate to the folder that contains the ZIP file to install. If you download plugins as ZIP files, simply change their extension from ZIP to RBZ. I would suggest if you choose not to place plugins into the Plugins folder that you at least create a specific folder location for them.
You can read more about this maintenance release here. Download the latest version from this link.

Thanks for the update Dave. When I saw the "new version available" pop up in SU just now, I figured if I went to Design.Click.Build. you or Tim would give me more background. I was right. Thanks, Gina
Thanks for passing this info on. I had not heard.
Thanks Dave!
SketchUp made it easy for us. Just open SU and it says a new version is available, and click here to get it.

I installed the version 8.0.4810 of SU when I got the "new version available" pop up last week and I seem to have weird things happening. Several times when I've been working on a design my tools stop working. I finally figured out that that it was "deselecting" itself as if I had gone into another program or file and I have to click it at the top to reselect it. As well, I notice components have moved and I have not moved them. Just now, while "installing" pegs in a set of drawers and being zoomed in I noticed that the lower drawer was not aligned with the upper. Upon checking I found that all three bottom drawers had shifted to the left 1/8". I have not selected the drawer component for several days. Has anyone else noticed any problems?
Timberlady, I have never seen any of those problems you've described would you be willing to send your SKP file to me so I can have a look at it?
Cheers,
Dave

Dave, I hope what I've sent you is the right thing. In the first drawing of the bed (this is the second version), I fixed the centre lower drawer but if you zoom in on the other two you can see how they have shifted. I'm not sure how you will be able to tell what's happening but give it a shot and thanks. You guys are soooo helpful. Barb
Timberlady, unfortunately that didn't get the file through to me. You can e-mail the file to me by clicking on my name at the end of the blog post, above.
