Fine Woodstrip Canoe Building
Bear Mountain Boats, 2010
$29.95 Can; 136 minutes (2 DVD set)
Nick Offerman recently wrote an article for us, “Level Big Slabs in No Time Flat” and while we were in LA to take photos for the article he gave us a tour of his shop. Hanging from the rafters we discovered a beautiful woodstrip canoe that he built. Ends up that Nick also made a DVD about building the canoe based on plans from Bear Mountain Boats and their book, Canoecraft, by Ted Moores. The DVD follows Nick as he builds the canoe and provides you with helpful instructions and comments throughout.
Lucky Sadie170 is the winner. His comment was chosen at random.
I hope he posts some photos when he finished his canoe in the the Gallery.

Coming from a long line of shipwright's, of which I'm sadly not one, winning this would be strangely appropriate.
Cheers.

This has been a dream project for my 13-year old son and me. It'd be great to have some help and inspiration.
Happy Holidays!
Living in North Wales uk born in Liverpool if I get the dvd, it will make it possible for me to paddle across the mersey instead of ferry across the mersey. Love what you gents are doing with woodworking over there many thanks
Paul.
Building a canoe has been on my bucket list for years .
I already have the book and now the dvd would be just what i need to get started.
Thanks for a chanced to win.
Larry
Giveaways are nice when they happen to you.
Great review on this DVD from the publisher's info page. Definitely a keeper with the companion book. Although building a canoe wasn't on my top 10 must builds, this instructional video might just be the big motivator.
With the price of gas these days I need to build a canoe. This DVD would be great.
I'd love to win this!
I've been wanting to build one of these.
Another opportunity to learn something new.
"Every two weeks I need to sand down my toe nails. They're too strong for clippers."
wood love it!
Canoecraft is supposed to be a great book. I've deamed of building a boat for years.
I would love to get a copy.
Incredable skills to learn from this book
I've got a forty year old fibreglass canoe that springs a new leak every time I take it out. I would love to learn how to build a beautful wooden one. Hope I'm the lucky one.
Nick's slab work was awesome!
This would be a great thing to have! Pick me. I'll send you pictures of the dogs watching it with me.
always wanted to build my own canoe
Through me in that brier patch. I'll build a canoe in a heartbeat. And, do a video on the build to boot.
I bought canoecraft several years ago intending to build a boat- life got in the way but a couple of weeks ago my 13 yo son found it and asked if we could build one together!!!
what a good way to keep his interest until we can do it.
Winning this sure would shine some light on the dark days of winter.
This would be fantastic and would set me up with my winter project. :)
does it matter what my comment is? if a winner is chosen at random? either way--
ron swanson/nick offerman was my first woodworking hero. the image of him on an episode of parks and rec, tenderly applying a finish to his woodstrip canoe, was my introduction to the beauty of craftsmanship. I'm only 21, and I've been woodworking for less than a year, but now I know it's what I want to devote my life to.
THANKS NICK!!
Would be a challenge to build.
I like FWW.
throw my name in the hat
I could use a new Canoe
Always wanted to build a strip built canoe.
I've already built a strip canoe & kayak. Maybe this DVD could help me avoid some mistakes for the next one.
Would love to win this... this is a bucketlist project for me. Thanks.
This idea floats for me.
a project i've been planning to try...would love to see another angle on construction before i decide on a proces...
I have a stack of 20ft western red cedar I bought several years ago but the class got canceled. It is time to put it to use.
I'm j-stroking and cross bracing and then portaging my entry in to you.
Thanks
One more into the hat!
I'll try it.
If I win this dvd I will built a canoe.
I've owned this book for several years and I'm dreaming of the day I build one of these amazing boats myself. Maybe this DVD will give me the inspiration I need.
Please put my name in the hat! Thanks for the chance.
I have built things for my kids in my woodworking pursuits, and I think it's time to take it to the next level. A canoe can be enjoyed by them and their children. Let's us come up to speed on the construction of one of these, and get busy!
The article on Nick inspired me to buy the book. The DVD would be a nice addition.
This DVD would be great to win.
I am a huge Nick Offerman fan! The woodworking info would be a bonus.
Thanks!
Please count me in as well.
What a cool Father-Son or Father-Daughter project!!! Nick is hilarious and a great ambassador for woodworking.
My wife has been after to me to build a boat (instead of all my shop projects), so this might just be what I need.
Don't usually enter competitions but the chance of winning a canoe building DVD is too good to miss
That looks like it would be a fun project.
I am about to embark on building my own stripper canoe. Would be great to watch the process first.
I built a boat a couple of summers ago, and doing a wood strip boat is on my todo list!
count me in for the drawing.
I never win anything so I'm just going to buy the DVD and book. I'm building an ice boat now, so that will be a good segue into building the canoe.
CHEERS!
I'm in
Count me in
If you pick me I will let you come and hang out with me.
I'd love to see the DVD -- especially if I win it.

Building one of these is on my life list! This would be so cool!
I think the building of a watertight wooden canoe would be an ultimate test of a woodworkers skill.
I made the Prospector in mahogany, trimmed in ash.
Created a decorative strip made up of 196 pieces on each side above the waterline.
It is a challenge but Ted Moore's book is very well written.
I did cane my own seats as well - another first.Ted's book was a bit short on this subject.
Now having that cd would have been great - come late than never Nick!
I own a kayak and have been thinking of building one myself. This would be a great project that would yield a family heirloom.
This is WAY cool!! Please count me in.
Looks like a great winter project!
I never built a boat, but I always wanted to build one.
Yes please
Sweet.
Count me it as well. I've made two cedar strip canoes and would love to build another to a higher standard of craftsmanship.
I would love to win this.
Building a boat is something I have not done, but would love to do. This book would help get the process started.
