If autumn is approaching in New England, that means it’s almost time for one of the country’s most impressive visual displays. No we don’t mean leaf season, but an event that woodworkers will find even more worth travelling for – the New Hampshire Furniture Masters’ Association annual exhibit and auction.
This year’s event kicks off Sunday (Aug. 12) with a reception and special preview of auction pieces at a resort on lovely Lake Winnipesauckee.
The Furniture Masters is one of the country’s most acclaimed regional woodworking groups, with more than two dozen members working in all furniture styles. The group began the auction in 1995 as a way to bring attention to members’ work. Each piece is selected by a jury of group members who judge the work on its design, structural integrity and workmanship.
The exhibition begins in earnest later this month, running from Aug. 23 to Sept. 19 at the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord. The auction takes place on Sept. 22 at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester.
