Hold Small Pieces Safely in a Crosscut Sled
Here’s a handy addition to a crosscut sled. Before attaching the fences, rout a dado a couple of inches to the right or left of the blade and add a T-track and hold-down. With this addition, you can firmly hold a small piece of wood for cutting at an odd angle or safely secure a larger workpiece for crosscutting. The hold-down keeps your fingers a safe distance from the blade. When you install the T-track, make sure to leave a gap at the back of the dado so you have clearance to insert the bolt into the track.
