In brainstorming projects to teach at Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking, I pitched a scaled-down version of the display case featured in issue 211 of Fine Woodworking. Like a lot of Arts and Crafts furniture, the original case looks pretty simple at first glance, but is actually a beast to built (and lift!) So i wanted to come up with a project that incorporated the same details, but not the man-hours.
The result is a small cabinet that features through-tenon construction, a dovetailed drawer, a door frame with a built-in rabbet for a leaded glass panel and topped off with hand-hammered hardware. I made the glass panel, but left the hardware to Gerry Rucks in Warren, MI.
We ended up shooting it as a video workshop project for FineWoodworking.com as well. So if you’re interested in giving it a try, stay tuned!

Great cabinet Mike! With the dovetailed drawer and through tenons, that little project has it all.
