This is a shift from the series on making a Windsor Bowback Side Chair. I’m currently in the shop doing an 18th Century Sheraton Desk, and want to show how I made the complex leg in SketchUp. This leg has everything including, square parts, turned sections, tapered area, hand-carved flutes, brass hardware, and inlay. Here is a picture of the SketchUp model:
This piece is shown in one of my favorite books, Verna Cook Salomonsky’s, “Masterpieces of Furniture”. The book includes helpful dimensional details and orthographic views. Even though joinery is not included, these illustrations are perfect for working up a complete shop documentation package using SketchUp.

I’ll get back to the Windsor next time.
