When I have a little free time I enjoy perusing several websites that specialize in selling used furniture. I often get design ideas from the images. The other day I came across a piece I’d not seen before called The Butterfly Stool which was designed by Sori Yanagi and first manufactured in 1954. It uses the pressed plywood molding process developed by Charles and Ray Eames. I thought it would be a good exercise for drawing complex curved surfaces in SketchUp. Here’s how I approached it. my drawing isn’t exactly accurate but it is close.
I used several plugins which are available. They are:
Curviloft, TIG-Weld, and Joint Push/Pull Use the Sketchucation Plugin Store to automatically install them and for Curviloft, make sure you get the required LibFredo6 support files installed, too.

Dave, Thanks so much for posting this vid. I've been trying to incorporate more curves into my sketchup designs. Recreating your model definitely boosted my skill and confidence. Lots of video pausing and rewinding!!
Keep up the great work.
