14-in. sash saw has 13 tpiSash saw Makes Fast, Clean Cuts
All of the large tenon saws I’ve used are heavy and cut with a wide kerf. But the Gramercy Tools 14-in. sash saw has qualities not found in other big saws. It is light (for a big saw), cuts with a thin kerf, and is very well balanced. It excels at cutting tenons and large joinery. What really makes this saw stand out from other tenon saws are its teeth, which are a hybrid of rip- and crosscuts. The hand-filed and hammer-set teeth cut quickly when ripping, but still cut smoothly and cleanly when crosscutting. The saw has 13 tpi, which is aggressive enough to get through tenons in short order but still start easily.
I also like that the saw’s plate tapers in height from the heel of the saw to the toe. This design reduces weight, enhances balance, and enables the saw to cut more aggressively because each tooth is slightly lower than the preceding one. The walnut handle is elegant and comfortable.
