Rubber-band brush wiper
When applying finish from a can, most of us dip the brush into the finish and then wipe off the excess on the edge of the can. This invariably leaves some finish in the rim. Not only does this waste finish, but the finish also hardens in the rim and prevents the lid from getting a good seal, which speeds up the deterioration of the remaining finish. Here’s a better way. Stretch a hefty rubber band around the open can so that it is taut and centered over the opening. Now you can wipe the brush on the rubber band, and the surplus finish will drip back into the can, keeping the rim clean.
