Trimble just announced today the release of SketchUp 2015. This release has a lot to recommend it. The key thing many folks will focus on is that there’s now a 64-bit version offered. This will help those who create large files. In addition, they’ve optimized the code so the program runs faster and they’ve made a ton of bug fixes. In addition, they’ve added a Rotated Rectangle tool, made a modification to the way the Polygon tool works which will allows the user to draw either inscribed or circumscribed polygons. There are some other features that are aimed more at the architectural and building construction trades as well.
LayOut has also been improved again with the addition of auto-text labels and some other features.
I’ll write a longer blog post detailing some of these new sfeatures and tools. Look for that soon.
There are a couple of things to note if you are planning to give SketchUp 2015 a try. First, look at the System Requirements. It won’t run on older operating systems such as Windows XP. Also make sure you are downloading the correct version. For Mac users there’s only one to worry about. For Windows users, make sure you choose either the 64-bit or 32-bit version depending upon your operating system.
Download the pro version and give that a try. They now give you a 30 day trial period instead of the old 8 hours of drawing time.
Here are the release notes. And you can download from here.
More to come soon.

Give it a try people Dave knows what he's talking about.
I have a long way to go but what I have learned is awesome.
Also check out the DVD Dave has out to help introduce you to getting started. "SketchUp Guide for WoodWorkers" by Dave Richards its a very good guide.

Thank you for the huge compliment, sir.
I must be the really dumb. I cannot figure out how to use the Sketch up program even with Dave's video. The first problem I ran into was how to put dimensions on a line that make sense for the small box I am trying to draw. The free program I downloaded does not avail it's self of this function.

erburro, The free version does indeed include the Dimension tool although it isn't included in the Getting Started toolset which is the default toolbar displayed after you first install and start the program. I did a blog post that I hope will help you out.
