I sketched out this little plant stand the other day as a short diversion from a very large SketchUp project I’ve been working on. Sometimes I find it nice to be able to just make a quick model that doesn’t have many requirements and no pressure to get it finished. A few months ago I found a drawing of this plant stand in a very old book from the early 1900s. The drawingisn’t much as far as a technical reference goes. It gives the “flavor” of the piece and only a few dimensions related to the size of the top and shelf.
After posting the illustration I made from my sketchUp model on one of the social media sites, a fellow who is fairly new to SketchUp asked if I could do a tutorial to show how I drew it. Here’s that tutorial.
To draw most of the curves on the legs, I used the Bezier Curve tool from Fredo6’s Bezier Spline Tools. Everything else was done with native tools.
By the way, if you already have a copy of Bezier Spline installed, you should update it. Fredo just posted a new updated version.
