This is second in a series re-constructing the 18th Century Williamsburg Knife Tray.
In the first episode, I showed the tracing over of a hand-drawn sketch. These traced-over shapes (faces) were then transformed into full-size tray components, the Side and End.
In this second video, I show how to construct the tray handle or Mid-Spar that is socketed into the two ends at the centerline of the tray.
I also created the Base of the tray, using the shaped face that was traced over on the hand sketch. You can see the overlapped corners where I’ll cut the dovetails.
Next time, I will show the construction of the angled corner dovetails.

Thanks for sharing this comprehensive set of instructions to build this beautiful knife storage compartment. I am looking forward to the angled dovetails which is definitely a huge challenge for me. I have been practising regular dovetails on a unit of furniture that is unused at home but I have yet to achieve my aimed results.
