Do you like kaleidoscopes? If so, then this book is for you. The Kaleidoscopes of Steven Gray serves as a history of the kaleidoscope maker. Gray has been at it since the early 1980s, creating stunning pieces. This book chronicles many of the kaleidoscopes Gray has made over the years and includes very detailed descriptions of the pieces – including how they work and what they are made of. This book will provide inspiration for the budding kaleidoscope maker and is also great for kaleidoscope collectors and appreciators of fine woodworking.
And for just a little more kaleidoscope fun, check out some videos of the kaleidoscopes in action.

This looks like a great, very fun book. My son (11 yr old), would really enjoy exploring this as well.
As a woodworker and an amateur historian, this books sounds wonderful.
Looks like a great resource. I made 3 wooden kaleidoscopes last year for my sons and would love to explore this field further.
I've purchased a few kaleidoscopes as gifts over the years. It would be nice to give a gift of one I personally made.
Being a fan of Steven Gray's work this would be a great book for any collection.
Cool looking book.
My favorite toys as a child were all scopes: telescopes, microscopes, and kaleidoscopes. They took my mind off of the unpleasantness of the "now" and let me get lost in the infinitely large, the wondrously small, and the starkly and beautifully geometric. I have built a telescope and a microscope of wood by turning tubes and adding glass lenses (with the help of my cousin, the optometrist), but I have yet to attempt a kaleidoscope. What an adventure that would be, especially now, later in life, when there are so many children around me to enjoy them, and to see the look on their mothers' faces when they embrace the old school charm of the kaleidoscope instead of their video game, if only for long enough to realize that t they can make one too.
Wow. I just googled Steven Gray, and his kaleidoscopes are amazing.
Cool book...A real craftsmen.
Something different and looks interesting!!!!
Nice. I just finished turning my first kaleidoscope (as a kit). Would be interesting to take it further

Takes me back to the summer of'67!
I would like to branch out to another type of woodworking. This book could help.
Steven does some excellent work. The book should be a real treasure trove.
Great book. Would love to have it.
That looks neat.
The pictures on the front of the book are stunning. Although not as sophisticated, they bring back memories from kaleidoscopes of my past. Great ideas and fun!
I'd love to add this book to my library.
Amazing craftsmanship! These are beautiful.
Looks like a great book for both the coffee table and the shop.
Steven Gray lived on Sourdough Rd near town when I visited his shop. I bought a kaleidoscope for my mother. Later, his work became well known and the price went way up. A few years ago, at the Folk Art Center near Asheville, NC, I saw an international touring show of turned art. All amazing works, and there was a piece by Steve Gray. If I win this drawing I will be delighted. Whomever wins it will be delighted.
Steven Gray's kaleidoscopes make the ones I made in the 1970's look pretty pathetic.
Clamps, planes and books. You can't have too many.
The beauty of the kaleidoscopes and the joy of watching someone discover the beauty held within, how nice. The book would be a welcome addition to any shop library.
Kaleidoscopes are truly a wonder and those done well are magical.
I have wanted to start making kaleidoscopes again and this book would truly be an inspirational place to start!
This would be an inspiring book to have -- Fitting with my Fine Woodworking magazine collection.
A number of years ago I had to make a self-imposed moratorium on buying any more wooden kaleidoscopes due to display space. Learning how to make them will be a nice work-around as I will be building - not buying!
Lok's like a fantastic book!
The book would be a wonderful addition to my library, both as a reference and inspirational book.
This is like taking a trip back in time. As a small child in the mid 20th century I loved kaleidoscopes and wondered how they worked. Taking one apart didn't help the learning process. Seeing these graceful wooden versions, missing from my childhood of taking things apart, makes me think of the craftsmen of the 19th century who produced useful and useless items of great intricacy and beauty.
No way I could improve on his patterns or workmanship but I would love to read the book and give it a try. Beautiful and unique are the only words I can think of to describe his work
I've been wanting to turn a kaleidoscope for years. I'd love to win this book. Probably be the kick in the pants I need to make one myself.
I've made a couple Kaleidoscopes as gifts would love this book to expand my ideas and horizons
An old friend has been making kaleidoscopes as a hobby for years and this book would be a great gift for him.
This looks like a great book and making a kleidoscope is something that I would like to try.
Can't wait to read it. Looks like some top-shelf craftsmanship.
NIIIIICCCCEEEE!!!!
Intimidation or inspiration? Probably a healthy dose of each, but as "they" say, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." I'm betting there is a lot of information inside for all level of woodworkers.
As an new instant grandfather (3) this would be a great book to make something for the children to mark the event and help me to bond with them.
Count me in!!!
Always room for another good book!
What a fantastic book. I've been thinking of turning a kaleidoscope and this will get me going on it.
I have always wanted to make a Kaleidoscope, and this book just be what I need to start making some. Looking forward to seeing a copy, or if necessary buying one.
I've been interested in these for many years.
I'd love a copy of this book
I'll give it a shot!!!!
Saw the videos from the link - what a great combination of creativity, craftsmanship and mirror geometry. Fascinating pieces of complexity with 19th century simplicity Kudos to Steven Gray.
Someone has to be the winner. It could be me!
