I use both hand-applied and sprayed finishes on my woodworking projects. In either case, a strong raking light is a tremendous help, letting me see the finish very clearly as it goes on. So I built this movable light pole, which lets me put the light source where I need it.

The setup consists of a base with casters, a 2×4 upright attached to the base with gussets, and three single-tube fluorescent light fixtures mounted on the upright. A regular light switch supplies power. I have used the light pole for more than a year and it has really improved the quality of my finishes.
