As much as I love the podcast, is there a way to get Ed back just for these? Tom, you're a great editor, but you need to speak up and enunciate when you're on the podcast. It's hard to hear you when I listen in the car because you trail off at the end of your sentences to below the level of human hearing (I'm only 28, so I don't think I've completely lost my hearing yet...). Also, as corny as Ed's sound effects and smarmy introductions for the segments were, they were really great. The segment for All Time Favorite Tool of All Time (for this week) was genius. Now it's just Our Favorite Tool of the Week. I think you get the gist here, but bring back the showmanship! Keep up the great work, but work on the details that you had when Ed was captaining the S.S. Podcast. [end rant that went on longer than intended]
Have to agree with dzehner2. We need to start a "Bring Back Ed" campaign. These podcasts now remind me of the movie "Good Morning Vietnam". The current version is the "before Robin Williams" version of radio Vietnam, sadly.
Guys, obviously they team is adjusting to personell changes and I would like to commend them for for their efforts. Is the same chemistry there? Of course not. I too miss and and Asa. But let's give them a chance to hit their stride again.
Actually, I thought Tom was starting to hit his stride a bit in this episode. He's just a very different personality than Ed and I was feeling like Mike and Matt were a bit more reserved when interacting with Tom, maybe partially because he's their boss.
This episode was a bit more enjoyable because Tom was a bit more spontaneous, everything felt a little more relaxed and he seemed willing to harass Mike and Matt a bit more naturally and easily.
And, I have to say, for me, Tom had some fantastic ideas and perspectives to share. The tone is a bit different, but the quality of the conversations continue to be fantastic.
I miss Ed and Asa as well. I find myself turning up the volume to try to understand what Tom is saying.
I for one think Tom is doing just great. I like the less frenetic pace. And it gives us more discussion on each topic.
Mike is using a marking gauge and a stick for his mortises... Why not just use a Mortise gauge? Seems like he's taking an extra step when all he needs is the right tool. You simplify the task and get a new tool. Bonus.
...and another thing. Tom is starting to hit his stride. There is a noticeable improvement between this and the previous podcast. Tom's doing fine.
You all are too kind. Although I must say that the new team, with all the changes, certainly is beginning to hit its stride. Hang in there - this type of transition is never easy.
That said - I miss you guys!!!!
Cheers,
-Ed
PS: Yeah, I know I was corny. But it was fun:)
Thanks for all the feedback, folks. I'll try to amp up the volume. It's always tough to replace a legend like Ed.
Best wood working podcast out there.
Ed and Asa are missed but the Tom you're doing great man. The last podcast might have been the best one yet.
Mike is a woodworking legend in the making and his words are gospel but the trio makes this entertainment.
Matt's snark is essential. Those who don't appreciated just can't handle the truth. He knows his stuff and he's strait up about it. I catch myself laughing out loud by the blunt statements. Much appreciated Matt.
Huge thanks to all of you.
