Our local woodworking club will be making more Adirondacks for an outdoor camp in the Sierra foothills dedicated to families affected by childhood cancer.
There is a large redwood clubhouse on the camp grounds with a surrounding deck that can use many more chairs. Also needed are double adirondacks or settees.
The following video shows how we plan to convert a standard single Adirondack design to a new double (settee) version.
Here is our standard single design. We’ve been using old growth redwood for the construction. It’s a sturdy structure with 1-1/4-in. and 7/8-in. thickness materials, along with many square drive stainless steel screws.
I’ve made a copy of the standard single, and begin to delete the extra Arm and Arm Support.
The next step is to shorten the shared middle vertical support post. This post is also shifted slightly to the left to be on the centerline of the double version.
A copy is made of the left hand assembly, moved to the right on the red axis, then flipped on the red axis.
After assembling the two halves, I build a middle vertical back support.
And here is the final……
And here is the video…..
