The Society of American Period Furniture Makers (SAPFM) has announced the lineup for its 2016 mid-year conference that will be held in Lancaster, Pa., June 23-27. Joshua Lane, curator of furniture at Winterthur, will give the keynote speech on the history of high chests in American furniture. Carver Mary May will demonstrate carving techniques including work holding, thinking through the carving process, and the finer details of finials, rosettes, acanthus leaves, and more. Will Neptune will cover period casework construction and our own Mike Pekovich will give demonstrations on fine finishing and photographing your furniture.
All of the presenters will also give mini demonstrations on a wide range of topics and there will be optional day trips to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Chester County Historical Society.
If you are interested in period furniture, this is a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in a learning environment, but more importantly, spend time with others who are just as passionate about woodworking as you are.
