Free Plan: Shaker Enfield Cupboard
A classic cupboard that is a pleasure to make and looks great in a homeChris Gochnour has built many projects using only hand tools. This Shaker Enfield cupboard is one of his favorites because it is made up of so many different techniques and aspects of traditional woodworking in small, manageable portions. The case features sliding dovetails on the shelves and through-dovetails on the top. The back is housed in a rabbet and made up of tongue-and-groove boards that are detailed with an elegant bead. A face frame is built using blind mortise-and-tenons and the molding is created using a combination plane and a cove and astragal plane. Each corner of the cupboard has a beautiful cove foot detail. The frame-and-panel door is created with through-mortise-and-tenons. The finish size is approximately 14-1/16 in. deep by 22-5/8 in. wide by 51-1/4 in. tall. This beautiful piece of furniture is a pleasure to make and looks great in a home.
This plan is faithful to the cupboard Chris built in his video workshop, The Enfield Cupboard with Hand Tools. If you’d like to see Chris build this project, by hand, in extreme detail, check out one of the twenty episodes we have covering every element building the Enfield cupboard.
