Modeling Mitered Half-Blind Dovetails in SketchUp
As a follow-on to his recent blog post on modeling angled dovetails, Dave Richards thought it would be interesting to take a look at how Chris Gochnour’s dovetails can be modeled.In his Contemporary Sideboard from issue number 277, Chris Gochnour uses some beautiful if unusual dovetails to join the case parts. As a follow-on to my recent blog post on modeling angled dovetails, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how Gochnour’s dovetails can be modeled. In this video I show a method using only native tools that is quick and simple. The general process could also be used for modeling other joinery. I expect you’ll find ways to put it to use in your modeling as well.
Now that you have it modeled in SketchUp, take it to the shop!
