Mr. Pekovich, you've prefinished the inside of the case with shellac. Does this affect the properties of the glue for the hinge strip?
Dang. You're good! No worries, he scrapes the shellac off of that area before gluing the hinge strip on.
I just want to state how much I am enjoying and learning from this series. Once it warms up in my shop I will be building this project so that I can improve my joinery and hand tool skills. Well paced in digestible chunks and full of small details in every episode.
I am an advance beginner and this series has been a great help and inspiration. Not only learning the techniques, using the simple ideas and aids to be accurate, and the logic (which sometimes needs to be seen and not read) will help me up my game considerably. I agree with the digestible chunks, and very clear instruction.
I also like the non-edited technique too because, maybe it's just me, but there is something comforting in watching your glue bottle bounce off your bench, or your board slip. One always gets the impression people on TV are PERFECT, and that can be intimidating.
Hi Mike, Hi Ben,
Thanks die all this great footage. This is exactly what I was looking for in Germany. :-)
I have question regarding how this hanging wall cabinet is mounted to the Wall. As you use a rabbet for the backboard there is no space for any cleats. I am just wondering how you solved it with this great cabinet without drilling through the backboard.
Thanks and best regards,
Ben
I'm really enjoying this video series for all the same reasons listed above! I bought a hard copy of Mike's book recently (got the digital version, but found I still prefer paper), and I've also started watching these videos. My daughter was watching one of the episodes with me and said, "You are always watching these woodworking videos, but you don't make those projects!" After giving some excuse about how I was too busy making cutting boards for the holidays and how I'm always working on our 120 year old house I decided my 10 year old had a good point. I have since ordered a set of plans to accompany the info in Mike's book. As soon as I finish a few picture frames that I told my wife I'd make her for Christmas (Oops!) I'm going to build a wall cabinet. Hopefully my adorable shop apprentice will lend a hand!
Really enjoying this series - THANK YOU! After finishing Episode 9, Im ready for more! The description references 25 videos - will the remaining videos be released over time, or am I missing a "next page" link?
I'm glad you're enjoying it! We release one video (or sometimes a set of videos) per week. Usually on Tuesdays.
You use the term "shellac".
Would wipe-on poly do the job?
Many thanks for all your great videos!!!!
Hi Mike and Ben,
I have been really enjoying following with this video series. I just finished watching episode 9 on the pre finish and case glue up. I wanted to verify that I should make sure not to get any shellac on any of the surfaces that will have glue applied. The shellac will interfere with the glue bonding to the wood correct? Any guidance you can give me would be appreciated.
Btw attached a photo of my dry fit case assembly. Learning so many good techniques and build strategies from the series.
Regards,
Jeff
