Modeling a bandsawn leg in SketchUp
Dave Richards demonstrates how to model a complex part using some clever SketchUp plugins.A friend of mine has been working on a design for a nightstand which has a Mid-Century Modern feel. Awhile back we worked on a leg design, shown at left, below. He’s been working on refining his design and contacted me for assistance again. He now wants the leg to have the same profile on the side as on the front. He also decided to shorten up the horn where the leg joins the lower rails. Here is a simple method to quickly get the leg he is after. I used a few extensions in the process. They are, BoolTools2, FredoCorner, and TIG-Weld. If you are using SketchUp 2020.2, there is now a native Weld feature so you wouldn’t need TIG-Weld and if you are installing FredoCorner, make sure you also install the current LibFredo6 support files.
