Fascinating and inspiring stuff! And a really good explanation of how classical architectural design principles were applied in 18th century cabinet making.
That was a thrilling seminar and I think you’re right when you allude to the idea that this is just the tip of the iceberg, understanding how the crafts people of yesteryear designed their furniture. Raised an important point at the end which was, just because there’s a geometric proportionality to a design does not guarantee it will be pleasing to the eye, although I think it raised the probability that it will be. Thank you again Steve for all your scholarship and understanding. Paul Jasper, Copper Pig Woodworking.
That was amazing, thank you! I think there is something so beautiful in even just the idea of using simple lines, arcs, and circles to create pieces that are so intricate and beautiful. It’s a great metaphor for a beautiful life and craft.
I appreciate you and the other people re-figuring all this stuff out so I can be fascinated by and hopefully from it. And thanks to FWW for making this find of stuff available! - Matt
