Woodpeckers new ThinRip Guide

From Kumiko panels to through-inlaid cutting boards and beyond, a lot of popular projects these days call for an abundance of consistent-dimension thin strips. Trapping those thin strips between your table saw blade and the rip fence can cause kickback. Also, tension release in the cut can cause binding and burning. It’s smarter to have the strip on the offcut side of your blade, but how do you keep the thickness consistent? Woodpeckers new ThinRip Guide is the answer. The ThinRip Guide provides a perfectly safe stop on the offcut side of the blade that delivers the same sized strips over and over again as you move your fence closer to the blade.

The ThinRip Guide is engineered to work with almost everything from portable jobsite saws up to the largest cabinet saws. If the miter slot is 3/8″ x 3/4″ with a T-slot, it will fit. Depending on the brand of saw you have, you can cut strips as thin as 1/32″ (or less if the wood will hold together) and up to 1-1/4″.

The ThinRip Guide is machined from a solid billet of top-quality aluminum. At just under 4 pounds, it’s engineered to provide solid support, and look good doing it. All other components are made from corrosion resistant materials, giving you a tool that will do its job for generations of woodworkers to come.

Nano Hone announces their new NL-6 Lapping Plate

Speed and consistency are your best friends to sharpen efficiently. Lap often and your stone will cut.

Like a wide-screen smartphone requiring your full grasp, the NL-6 is nothing less than a handful. The surface is coated with diamond abrasive particles in a nickel bed. The NL-6’s surface is a series of raised diamond coated structures. It is the edges of these raised diamond structures that are doing the heavy work.

The  NL-6 has flat surfaces on both ends to avoid a sudden drop off during flattening which protects the stars from chipping.

The Furniture Society announces scholarship for BIPOC and Women makers

The Furni­ture Society is pleased to have received funding from The Schooner Foun­da­tion in support of our new Profes­sional Devel­op­ment Program and the spon­sor­ship of up to twenty indi­vid­ual schol­ar­ships for BIPOC and women makers to attend the lectures, port­fo­lio reviews, and mentor­ship sessions offered as part of our first, online confer­ence, FS22: Working Together. This support provides dynamic confer­ence program­ming as well as direct access to profes­sional devel­op­ment tools and oppor­tu­ni­ties for under­rep­re­sented makers in the field.

Schol­ar­ships include a 1‑year member­ship to The Furni­ture Society and full confer­ence pass includ­ing the profes­sional devel­op­ment session, and one mentor or portfolio session.
